This series is inspired by Kim's book "Meditations For Moms." These six sessions will incorporate the tools of Yoga, guided meditation, journaling and connecting with others through discussion to help you rekindle an appreciation for how incredible you already are. Replenish your energy and nourish your spirit. Take a breath, reconnect with your inner self and spirit, re-energize, and return to whatever is happening in your life with an open heart and a fresh attitude. Together we will explore and cultivate our potential. This class will meet 6 Wednesdays. Minimum of 6 pre-registered to start series.

Puzzled by all those class descriptions on yoga sites? Don’t know which “level” (if any) would be good for you? This series is designed to answer those questions and more for people who think they might like to start yoga and want to take their first steps wisely. We’ll have gentle sessions of stretching, discussion and samplers of the different “styles” of yoga, pointers beginning to practice and finding the right class, and plenty of time for Q&A. All ages welcome; bring an open mind and wear comfortable clothes.

This course will meet for four consecutive weeks. Following an overview of yoga in the first class, each class will consist of instruction, discussion, and practice of the basic poses. The practice will be adapted to fit the physical capabilities each participant. Students will take away a basic understanding of yoga and will be equipped to choose the next step in yoga that best fits their personal goals.

This class is designed to calm the nervous system and induce the relaxation response. The focus is on relaxing and opening the body in restful postures with the use of soft props. This is not sleep, but deep rest that provides the body an opportunity to renew and to heal. Numerous studies have proven the physical and emotional benefits of triggering the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). This is beneficial for a strong immune response, lowered heart rate and blood pressure and balancing the body’s response system. It is believed that when the PNS is under-active, the body is more susceptible to illness.

Our yoga practice “on the mat” is simply a microcosm of our life “off the mat”. “Everything in life – ambition, fear, longing, pain and joy – is right there in our body; we can see it in every yoga pose, if we’re sensitive and brave enough to go there”. To have the profound and transformative experience that a yoga practice can offer, it is essential to go beyond form and function. In this dynamic and powerfully physical yet meditative class, we will be focusing on asana as a means of setting intention and cultivating a rich soil of communion, self-expression and self-revelation. Creative sequencing of asanas, pranayama, some chanting and meditation will be the tools used to navigate our realities and seal our intentions.
